Optimization  Optimization generally means to maximize or minimize the objectives (cost,  profit, time, etc.) and thus to find the process variables that ensure the best performance.  Simulation and/or optimization?  We can provide a complete system solution in a simulation model. Each  and  every dynamic simulation run gives new insight into the modelled system.  This allows another and better simulation models to be  built. However,  when a large number of variables  (orders, machine scheduling, routing, scheduling,  etc.) is present then this optimization of the  simulation model becomes a tedious task.  In this case we use an optimization method, which  quickly finds the best settings for the given objective function (hoover the image right). Optimization methods and scheduling  In operations research there is a wealth of optimization methods that can be  selected depending on the quality and complexity of the desired solution and  computation effort. With the help of modern tools such as ILOG  Optimization Suite from IBM, we solve  complex routing, scheduling, and also the  full range of linear, integer and nonlinear  problems (hoover the optimal routing  right).  © 2011 Simulate First.
