We want to build a simulation model of a laboratory system with over 50 workplaces. The number of operators according to skills and the number of walked kilometers is under investigation. The number of resources (machines and operators) is limited. The operators have to resolve a number of problems a day. They have certain skills to serve in particular roles. The question is how the workplaces should be relocated in order to reduce the number of walked kilometers. Or differently, what minimal set of skills should each of the operators posses in order to smoothly run the production in the laboratory?
Simulation model
The picture above presents a simulation model that has a network of routes among all the workplaces in the building like desks, machines, laboratory equipment. The personnel walks from one place to another according to the product requirements, each time using this network. This network is a new solution in the simulation field and was presented at WSC 2006 by Michal Stec from SimulateFirst.
Results
The model brings a number of statistical results and it allows for analyzing the following parameters:
Number, skill set and work schedule for operators, technicians and supervisory personnel
Number, type and proportions of products in production
Number and positions of work cells, desks, workplaces, machines etc.
